The Herd: Promotions and New Hires for 10.28.09

careersFirms hiring/promoting employees include some of the area’s biggest employers, and some from financial services and law.

Financial Services:
Meredith W. Briggs has recently joined Heritage Wealth Advisors as a senior associate. Previously, Briggs was a financial consultant with AXA Advisors, where she worked with clients in the areas of investment management, retirement planning and risk management. Briggs received her undergraduate degree from Duke University and became a certified financial planner in 2009.

Big Business:
MeadWestvaco Corp. has named Nik Hiremath as vice president, Supply
Chain. Hiremath will have responsibility for leading MWV’s global supply chain functions, including sourcing, logistics, distribution and transportation. Hiremath joined MWV in 2001 where he has served as director, Operations Planning and Strategy, and vice president, Procurement & Supply Management for the Consumer & Office Products division. He earned both a B.S. degree and an MBA from the University of Missouri.

Paul W. Springman
, president and chief operating officer at the Markel Corp. has taken a leave of absence for personal reasons, according to a press release. Springman’s responsibilities will be assumed by other members of the company’s senior management team during his absence.

J. Burke Morton has joined Norlight Telecommunications as regional sales manager. Morton was previously the global account manager at Qwest Communications. Morton is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College.

David J. Esposito has joined the law firm of Schettine & Nguyen. Esposito earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond and his joint JD/MBA from The T.C. Williams School of Law and The Robins School of Business, both of the University of Richmond. Mr. Esposito will focus on business litigation and creditor’s rights.

Karen S. Elliott has joined the employment law team in at Sands Anderson Marks & Miller. Elliott earned her B.A. from George Washington University and her J.D. from the University of Virginia.

K.C. McGurren, and Kristin Anderson Meyers will join the board of the James River Green Building Council in January 2010. Katherine Carroll (K.C.) McGurren is a director at EarthCraft Virginia. She has a B.S. degree in Environmental Policy and Planning from Virginia Tech. Kristin Anderson Meyers is a sustainability coordinator at Moseley Architects. Ms. Meyers received her BA in Philosophy from The College of William & Mary and earned her Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science & Policy at Columbia University.  Prior to joining Moseley Architects, she worked as an Environmental Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton.
