New owners for Plow & Hearth

plow&hearthA Richmond-based company, PH International LLC, has acquired the Plow & Hearth division of New York-based 1-800-FLOWERS for $17 million.

Founded in the tiny town of Madison, VA in 1980, Plow & Hearth launched a catalog in 1982 selling home furnishings and garden accessories. In 1992 a majority interest was sold to 1-800-FLOWERS, but continued to run from Madison. Several other gift catalog companies were managed by Plow & Hearth and are part of the deal including Magic Cabin, Problem Solvers, Wind & Weather, and HearthSong.

Plow & Hearth also owns eight retail stores, including one in Short Pump. There is also a headquarters in Madison.

BizSense could not find any information on PH International LLC by press time, which is referred to in a press release as a ‘Richmond, Virginia-based manufacturer and wholesaler of home décor and garden products.” It is possible it is a group of investors who started a company for the purpose of buying and operating Plow & Hearth.

The deal is expected to close by the end of January.
