John G. Butler III joined Sinnott Nuckols & Logan as a partner. Butler’s practice concentrates in civil litigation defense in the areas of aviation, products liability, trucking/transportation and general liability. John is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received his J.D. from the University of Florida.

Paul H. Meyer joined Cherry Bekaert as an audit senior manager. Meyer focuses his practice on small public and medium-size private companies.

Ned Rider joined Scott Insurance’s Richmond office as a commercial risk account executive. Rider previously worked as a teacher and coach for St. Christopher’s School in Richmond. He received his master’s in business administration from Tulane University and his bachelor of arts from Washington and Lee University.

Carrie Cantrell Roth has been named interim executive director of the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park. Roth has been deputy secretary of commerce and trade for Gov. Bob McDonnell since 2010.

Monika Ruscsak joined Long & Foster Real Estate’s Short Pump office. Ruscsak has an associate’s degree from Northern Virginia Community College in Fairfax and is finishing her bachelor’s degree in finance through Southern New Hampshire University.

Carlos Chacon Jr. joined B2B Solutions as the Microsoft SQL server engagement lead. Chacon will focus on leading the Microsoft database services practice. Carlos is one of the leaders of Richmond’s SQL server user group and is an organizer of the Richmond SQLSaturday event.

Michele Lynn Satterlund joined McGuireWoods Consulting as a senior vice president of the firm’s Virginia State Government Relations group and as an attorney with McGuireWoods LLP. Satterlund was previously an attorney and lobbyist for Richmond-based Macaulay & Burch.

James T. Hoffman was promoted to government affairs manager at Davis Consultants. Hoffman is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia. He joined the firm in fall 2011.

Cindy Butterworth assumed the position of president of Custom Comfort by Winn, Ltd. She appointed her son-in-law, Justin Faison, to the position of vice president.

Higher education

The VCU Health System announced the appointment of Joseph T. DiPiro as dean of the Virginia Commonwealth School of Pharmacy. DiPiro is currently executive dean of the South Carolina College of Pharmacy and will begin his new appointment in July. He takes over from Vic Yanchick.
