A local medical practice is tripling its office space west of Short Pump, while a Northern Virginia physical therapy group has set up another Richmond-area location.

Virginia Physicians for Women has secured 6,400 square feet in the first of three planned 60,000-square-foot medical office buildings in the Notch at West Creek.

The group, which has six offices in the Richmond area, has been on the lookout for a new West End location for about two years, COO Ronnie Milligan said.

“We have a very small office at Innsbrook now, and what I consider to be the Far West End is growing very rapidly, and we wanted to be part of that,” Milligan said. “We were waiting for the right time and the right partner and the right location, and I think we found it at the West Creek Medical Park.”

Like many of the practice’s other offices, the West Creek location will offer a full range of gynecological services, and will be one of three offices that includes a mammography unit.

The office should open in the first week of August, at which time the practice will close its Innsbrook office. Dallan Construction is renovating the West Creek space to suit VPFW.

Milligan said the group signed a 10-year lease, and the new space is three times as large as its Innsbrook office. Three physicians will work out of the West Creek location, two of whom are new hires.

West Creek Medical Park is being developed by the Lingerfelt Cos. NAI Eagle’s Chris Rice handled the lease negotiations. He has been working with the practice since the fall of last year.

“We were trying to find an accessible, well-located West End location that serves their existing client base and will help them serve the growth that’s expected in that area,” Rice said.

Four of VPFW’s other offices are on local hospital campuses: St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, Johnston-Willis Hospital and Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. It also has a location in Colonial Heights.

As VPFW expands its foothold in Richmond, Alliance Physical Therapy, based out of Northern Virginia, is making its second move in the local market.

The group opened a Colonial Heights location in January, and followed that with the recent opening of an office near Willow Lawn at 5211 W. Broad St. It opened in mid-April, Office Manager Lisa Carper said.

“We have had success moving south of Northern Virginia,” Carper said. “We saw a need for quality care while having patients seen in a timely fashion, that way the patient can get back to daily life quickly.”

Alliance is a therapist-owned clinic, Carper said, and its Richmond location services almost all physical therapy needs, including sports injuries and post-surgical work.

A staff of about five employees settled into the 3,400-square-foot Broad Street office, with three therapists that move between Richmond and the Colonial Heights locations. The therapists see an average of about 15 patients per day.

Alliance has nine other locations, located in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and a little farther south in Stafford.
