Las Vegas may be the deal-making capital for Richmond real estate pros this week.

Brokers, developers, lawyers, engineers and architects from at least 20 Richmond firms made the trip out to retail commercial real estate conference RECon, a trade show and networking event hosted annually at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Local companies Commonwealth Commercial Partners, Timmons Group, Apple Hospitality REIT and Sauer Properties all had representatives chasing down leads in Vegas. Richmond-based brokers from CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield, Colliers and NAI Global also made the trip.

Divaris Real Estate was in town selling major hospitality projects in Virginia Beach as well as its adaptive reuse project at Scott’s Addition’s HandCraft building, which has already signed on Vasen Brewery and wireless car charging company Evatran.

This year’s RECon event boasts some 36,000 attendees and around 1,000 exhibitors, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers’ website. Keynote speakers on the convention’s schedule include Magic Johnson, Restoration Hardware CEO Gary Friedman and Bobbi Brown, founder of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.

And just because Las Vegas is 2,400 miles and at least one connection from the Richmond airport doesn’t mean there are deals to be done. Divaris chairman Gerald Divaris said major national retail tenants that might not already by in the state are keeping an eye on Central Virginia.

“All of the grocery stores in the world are here now,” he said. “And in time you will see more of the national retailers creeping in from the North and the South.”
