The disco ball at a longtime local skating rink spins no more.

Skateland of Richmond, a roller rink that has operated for decades on Hull Street Road, closed in February, and its building was sold last week for $800,000.

The 22,000-square-foot building sits on 2.5 acres at 5512 Hull Street Road. It was built in 1964 and most recently assessed by the city at $397,000.

The buyer, according to city records, was Jong P. Lim, who is listed as the owner of the neighboring Ruby Red Beauty Supplies property. Lim could not be reached for comment.

The previous owner was Skateland Properties South Inc., which listed Bonnie and Norman Carnell listed as its proprietors. The Carnells also own Atlantis Skateway, a roller rink in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The Carnells could not be reached for comment.

This is where I started my Dj Career and became a big brother/ uncle to a lot of kids. This place means so much to a lot of people and for it to just be shut down due to slum lords is ridiculous and as the family of Skateland Of Richmond we couldn’t fight hard enough to save our home. Now where do we go ? Where will the children over the south of Richmond go to skate and get away from neighborhood crime? Where was our help from the city officials? We talk about saving the children but we have no help maintaining the places we use to save these children now our children will be roaming the streets with nothing to do and may find there self getting into a lot of trouble. It’s still hurts that our home is gone and we couldn’t save it and no one was willing to help save this place that could help. So the question now is what do we do? Where do we go? What about the children over The southside? What about the adults who love to skate the adult sessions for there getaway from the world? Who’s going to answer these questions because a lot of people want to know. What’s going to happen to the rink now? Will it be renovated and reopened or tore down for what ever reason.. Sincerely,

I can’t believe that the skatand on hull street has closed ! I am so hurt by this ! Why can’t we just save something sometimes? I use to go to this place when I was 16 years old, I’m 54 years old know ! Skate land saved my life back then ! It kept me from trouble . All we do as people now is destroy monuments of history, there is a lot of history there ! If we as
People keep taking Down mouments we will have no history any more ! If I wasn’t disabled and on disability I would have took over the rent and kept it going ! I knew what it would have took to keep it going ! I would have put it back to what it looked like in the 60s ! Only if I could have won the lottery! It’s ok to dream ! I truly loved this place ! I use to Hepl Ron with the wood floors ! My name is Tim Sturgill and I loved this place !❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
