RICHMOND, VA, September 3, 2008 – The Southside location of American Family Fitness, 9101 Midlothian Turnpike, will temporarily relocate to the former Office Max space in the Stein-Mart Festival Shopping Center, 9748 Midlothian Turnpike, in early November while a new location is built. The temporary 28,000-square-foot location will include an expanded and upgraded cardiovascular equipment area and all other amenities from the existing space except basketball, racquetball and pool facilities. All of these areas will be included in the new club when it opens next year.
American Family Fitness was unable to extend its current lease for another year while the new 65,000-square-foot location is being constructed. The new location, at the intersection of Woolridge Road and Midlothian Turnpike, is expected to open in late summer/early fall 2009.
“After numerous efforts, we are disappointed that the landlord at the current Southside location, after being there for 20 years, would not allow us to renew our lease for a short-term period,” said Brian Evans, president of American Family Fitness. “Instead of shutting down this location and waiting for the new one to open, we have decided to temporarily relocate this facility so our members will have a place to workout in the interim.”
American Family Fitness members also will have access to other nearby locations at 4751 Brad McNeer Parkway in Swift Creek, 5750 Brook Road on the Northside and 6337 Mechanicsville Turnpike in Mechanicsville.
