Henrico Students Win Scholarship, Travel Opportunity

Mondial Assistance USA, a global travel insurance and assistance company with U.S. operations in Henrico County, today announced the 2009 Access Abroad scholarship recipients – two J.R. Tucker High School students – that each will receive scholarships of $2,500 for study abroad. The scholarships will be presented by Mondial Assistance President and CEO Jon Ansell at a ceremony at the company’s headquarters (2805 N. Parham Rd.) today, Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 4 p.m.

The 2009 Access Abroad Scholarship recipients are:

· Andrey Matveyev, a junior, is the vice president of the World Affairs Club at Tucker High School. He also helped to form Tucker’s UN Club. Outside of school, he is a member of the Richmond Concert Band where he plays saxophone.

· Imani Marks, a sophomore, is also an active member of school clubs including the UN Club, International Club, and Keyettes. She enjoys spending her free time working at Walkerton Tavern where she assists at the recreation center.

“We are thrilled that the Access Abroad scholarship is able provide this important travel and education opportunity for Andrey and Imani,” Ansell noted. “Every day Mondial Assistance is part of our customers’ travel experiences and we are proud to support these two young people as they pursue their own travel adventures. We know that Imani and Andrey will always remember their time abroad and we are happy to support them in this life-changing experience.”

The students applied for the scholarship by completing an application form that included writing an essay describing their reasons for travel and what they expected to learn. The contest is open to all students from all Henrico County high schools, which partnered with Mondial Assistance to promote the scholarship opportunity for its students, and to children of Mondial Assistance associates.

Mondial Assistance USA is a travel insurance and assistance company, providing daily services to millions of travelers around the globe. As part of the scholarship award, Mondial Assistance will provide Matveyev and Marks with insurance and access to the same 24-hour assistance hotline Mondial Assistance provides its traveling customers.
