The Herd: new hires and promotions for 8.25.10

careersLaw:
A.   Lynne Puckett has been named senior vice president, general counsel at Colfax.  Thomas M. O’Brien is retiring and will remain an advisor. Puckett joins Colfax from the law firm of Hogan Lovells, where she is currently a partner. Before entering law, Puckett worked for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Puckett went to University of Maryland School of Law JMU.

Lakai Vinson and Steven R. Kovatis have joined Morris & Morris as associates. Vinson is a 2008 graduate of the law school at UNC and was previously an associate with LeClair Ryan. Kovatis was an associate with Ballard Spahr in Philadelphia prior to joining Morris & Morris. He graduated from the Temple University law school.

Mining:
Massey Energy Company announced the promotion of three key executives. Andrew Hampton was promoted to the position of vice president, corporate development; Roger Hendriksen was promoted to the position of vice president, investor relations; and Jason Whitehead was promoted to the position of vice president, underground operations.

Environmental:
Darrin Hinderliter joined Waste Associates to serve as director of operations at its subsidiary company, The East End Landfill. In this newly created position, Hinderliter will oversee all day-to-day management of the construction and demolition waste facility located in eastern Henrico County. Prior to joining Waste Associates, Hinderliter was with Georgia-based Veolia Environmental Services for nine years, managing two of the company’s landfill properties, His is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Investing:
Christopher B. Morris has joined Hermitage Wealth Management, Inc. as the director of client services.  Morris was previously an associate examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.  He has an MBA from Auburn and an undergraduate degree from William and Mary.

Stuart Porterfield will be joining RiverFront as its Mid-Atlantic/Northeast Regional director. Porterfield was formerly founder and principal of Advisor PT, a financial advisory practice management and coaching firm. Prior to founding Advisor PT, Porterfield spent much of his 20 year career at Wachovia Securities.

Rebecca Felton has been tapped as director of RiverFront’s newly formed Partner Advisor Services Group.

IT:

Paul Shannon has recently joined Networking Technologies and Support, Inc., as a desktop support specialist.

Kyle Wood has recently joined Networking Technologies and Support, Inc., as a desktop support specialist.

Sports:
VCU extended the contract of head basketball coach Shaka Smart by two years. You can read more here.
