Short Pump comings and goings

pizzafusionThe Short Pump location of organic chain Pizza Fusion has closed its restaurant in the Short Pump Station shopping center, near Trader Joe’s. A sign was recently placed on the front door explaining that the franchise would be closed due to”technical difficulties,” but more than a week later the store hasn’t re0pened.

Pizza Fusion maintained a steady lunch crowd but faced an increasingly saturated pizza market in Short Pump with nearby restaurants such as Ledo’s Pizza, Two Guys Pizza and Extreme Pizza.

The owner of Oregon Hill restaurant Pescado’s China Street is starting a new venture in Short Pump. Todd Manley is preparing to open the White Anchovy in the Lauderdale Square shopping center at the corner of Lauderdale Drive and Church Road, in the space formerly occupied by seafood restaurant Seafire Grill. The former restaurant was owned by the Trak Family, who own the nearby Greek/Italian restaurant the Grapevine, among several others.

The White Anchovy will spotlight Mediterranean fare in a casual setting. No word on an opening date.

Also in Short Pump, Markel/Eagle Advisors is moving its office from Innsbrook to West Broad Village. The company, which is the operator of the mixed-use development, will occupy the 13,000-square-foot space, along with all of its divisions, including Eagle Construction, Eagle Commercial Construction and Eagle Commercial Realty.

Pescados bringing the brand to Short Pump? That’s good news. Too many usual-suspects. Really sorry to see Pizza Fusion go, since they had organic dairy and gluten-free options that the others don’t.

Love having Trader Joe’s here, but whoever planned that development didn’t understand how mobbed TJ’s would get, particularly on weekends. That lot is literally full to bursting on Saturday w/TJ customers, must make it hard on the other tenants.
