The investment arm of the Richmond-based niche insurance firm has added to its portfolio of companies with the acquisition of PartnerMD, a local executive health company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
PartnerMD was founded in Richmond in 2003 by Linda Nash and James Mumper. It has nine doctors that serve individual and corporate clients providing high-end concierge medical service.
As part of the deal, PartnerMD is now a subsidiary of Markel Ventures.
This is Markel Venture’s second foray into the healthcare world. In January, it bought a majority interest in locally-based Diamond Healthcare Corp. A few weeks prior to that , Markel purchased RetailData LLC, a local retail intelligence firm.
Its other recent purchases include a pickle packing company, a dredging company and a local private equity fund that had taken control of the distressed real estate project West Broad Village.
