New bites

Raising Cane’s, a chicken-fingers joint, opened Oct. 24 near VCU at Laurel and Grace streets.

Arcadia announced its mystery executive chef: Matthew Tlusty, formerly of the White Anchovie (now Ironfish) and before that Bookbinder’s and the now defunct Limani in Carytown.

Chez Foushee revealed a new fall menu from chef Joshua Wood, including butternut bisque, chicken fricassee, grouper with smoked salmon, toffee pudding and molten chocolate cake.

Empress unveiled a new fall/winter menu.

Parkside Café updated its menu of small plates and sandwiches. The Forest Hill Avenue restaurant has also started serving some new beers, including Duck Rabbit Stout and Anchor Steam and beers from Epic Brewery.

Bin 22, a staple on West Cary Street, closed and reopened as Carytown Bistro.

Woody’s Inn on West Cary Street went up for sale this month.

Jimmy Sneed is taking over the closed Double T’s space in Carytown and turning it into a pizza place.

Portico, the brainchild of Sensi restaurant owner Paolo Randazzo, opened at the beginning of the month on River Road in Goochland County. Read more here.

The old Sprout location on North Morris Street, which closed in September, will open next month as S@mple, a small plates restaurant with iPads and laptops. Read more here.

Burger and ice cream restaurant chain Friendly’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, closing four of its Richmond locations.

The second Hardshell location opened Oct. 4 on the Southside in the Bellgrade Shopping Center. The Southside and Shockoe Bottom locations are owned by the Richmond Restaurant Group.

Frozen yogurt chain Sweet Frog is on the move to take over Richmond. It leased the former Cold Stone space at Libbie and Grove this month.

Lucille’s Bakery moved from its Carytown location and set up a retail storefront on North Meadow Street.

The owner of Tiki Bob’s is opening On the Rox in Shockoe Bottom. Read more here.

The second Halligan Bar & Grill is set to open next month in West Broad Village.
