250 Sports Grill in Goochland is hiring, ahead of a planned late July opening.

The Empress on Broad Street has permanently closed its doors after a temporary shutdown this month.

Carytown restaurants will offer two-course meals for $16 from Aug. 6-12 for the “Taste of Carytown” Restaurant Week.

Mediterranean Bistro on Main Street in the Fan has yet to open. At issue, Owner Jason Farag said, is the restaurant’s parking capacity.

Second helpings

The Federal Coffee and Tea opened last Monday at the former Franklin Federal Savings and Loan.

Tuffy Stone is bringing new Q Barbecue restaurants to Short Pump and Midlothian.

Glen Allen also got a new barbecue joint, as Dickey’s Barbeque opened its second local location last Thursday.

Culinard, a for-profit Virginia culinary school, is opening a restaurant called Kitchen on Cary in Shockoe Slip to hire its recent graduates.

Osaka and Blue Goat Owner Chris Tsui plans to open a new Chinese restaurant on Boulevard called Fat Dragon.

Facing $300,000 in back taxes, the Republic on Broad Street closed, filed for bankruptcy and then reopened, all in the past month.

A new Panera Bread is coming to Carytown Place in September, said Connie Jordan Nielsen of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer.
