Bank branch planned in Innsbrook

Capital One Financial bankCapital One might soon have a second Richmond location for you to deposit what’s in your wallet.

The company is planning to open a bank branch at its recently expanded campus in Innsbrook.

Should the McLean-based banking and credit card giant get the green light from regulators, the branch will be built at 10700 Capital One Way, inside Knolls 5, one of the two buildings in Innsbrook the company refurbished and opened last November.

The branch is being built mostly to serve the almost 3,000 Capital One employees who work at its Knolls Campus, although it will be open to the public, according to company spokesperson Julie Rakes.

Rakes would not comment on whether Capital One has plans for further branch expansion in Richmond.

Capital One has about 1,000 branches across the country, mostly in New York, New Jersey, Texas, Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

It has several bank locations in Fredericksburg and elsewhere in Central Virginia, but has yet to stake a large claim with branches here in Richmond. It does have another branch within its 316-acre West Creek campus in Goochland County, Rakes said. That branch also mostly serves the company’s employees, although it is open to the public.

With about 12,000 workers in the area, Capital One is one of the largest employers in Richmond, and its growth here has been constant.

The company is building 300,000 square feet of space at its West Creek campus. It also announced plans in June for a $150 million data center in Meadowville Technology Park in Chesterfield County.
