The Richmond restaurant scene was in the spotlight last week as BizSense hosted the second annual Kitchen Confidential event, featuring a panel discussion with five local restaurateurs.
Held at the Hippodrome in Jackson Ward, the panel featured:
Jason Alley, owner of Comfort and Pasture; Aline Reitzer, owner of Acacia and organizer of Richmond Restaurant Week; Ted Santarella, founder of Tarrant’s Cafe and Max’s on Broad; Paul Keevil, owner of Millie’s and Lulu’s; and Giuseppe Scafidi, chef/owner of Deco Ristorante.
The conversation was moderated by Christine Wansleben, the owner/instructor of the Mise en Place cooking school in Shockoe Slip.
On the menu for evening were quips about social media, the value of sites such as Yelp, whether Richmond is oversaturated with restaurants, and whether food trucks are seen as legitimate competition.
