A local interior design firm has set up shop in Carytown.

Visible Proof recently relocated to a second-floor space at 3324 W. Cary St., also known as the Millennium Building. The firm vacated its office near VCU at 1623 W. Broad St.

Owner Kristi Lane said the increased space – 1,600 square feet compared with about 1,000 – was badly needed.

“In the past year, we’ve grown a ton,” Lane said. “We thought it would happen more gradually.”

Lane opened Visible Proof three years ago after leaving 3North, a Richmond design company she started with two partners.

Visible Proof offers architecture, interior design, graphic design and branding services. For a commercial client who has just leased a shell space, for example, Lane and her staff could outfit the entire space, from selecting where the walls and lights should go to picking out furniture and accessories and designing graphics for the walls. Commercial clients make up about 70 percent of the firm’s customers.

Visible Proof’s clients have included the Martin Agency, Health Diagnostics Laboratory and CarLotz.

The company started with a handful of employees and now has a staff of four full-time, three part-time and two contract employees. Lane said they have about 25 clients at any given time.

Lane said the firm started looking for an office in Shockoe Slip but found that many of its clients preferred a Carytown location.

With the help of broker Matt Hamilton of Colliers International and 122 design, Visible Proof signed a one-year lease with an option for renewal. Bandazian & Holden represents the landlord, Houchang Pirouzan.

Bandazian & Holden president and principal broker Raffi Bandazian said the addition of Visible Proof and fellow new tenant the Mom Complex fills the building’s 7,100 square feet. It already housed the Artisans Shop and the Indigo Avenue consignment shop.
