Just months after opening its first storefront in Richmond, a men’s fashion company known for its colorful bow ties is relocating its headquarters to the area.

Collared Greens announced this week that it will move its home base from High Point, N.C., to a 5,000-square-foot space at 2513 Grenoble Road near West Broad Street and Glenside. The company will make the move in the spring.

Founded by four Hampden-Sydney graduates, two of whom are from Richmond, Collared Greens sells bow ties, neckties, belts and men’s apparel manufactured in the United States. The company launched in 2008 in Sun Valley, Idaho, and in September chose Richmond for its first retail shop at 5707 Grove Ave.

“We’ve grown out of our space here,” Collared Greens chief operating officer Mason Antrim said of the company’s operations in North Carolina. “As we grow into a bigger company, infrastructure is important, and Richmond provides that.”

Antrim said the company, which started out selling six ties, now sells a line of about 150. Bow ties cost $55, and neckties sell for $85. The retail shop near the corner of Libbie and Grove avenues sells about 50 units a week, Antrim said.

Collared Greens also does retail through its website and does the bulk of its business with 250 wholesale clients.

“We’ve grown over 100 percent since we moved [in 2011] to High Point,” Antrim said. “Last year we did about 20,000 units, and we’re on pace to double that.”

Antrim said the company will carry out its daily operations, including shipping and warehousing, in the new Richmond headquarters.

The company will look to hire three employees for the office next year.
