One of Richmond’s biggest law firms has given its New Jersey roster a shot in the arm.

LeClairRyan added 10 attorneys and five additional employees to its Newark office, the firm announced Jan. 1.

The additions all came from law firm Clyde & Co.’s New Jersey office. They join LeClairRyan’s national commercial litigation, corporate litigation, and professional liability and transportation practices.

LeClairRyan’s Newark office now has 57 attorneys. It was established in 2008 through a merger with Seiden & Wayne, the firm said. David Freinberg, its chief executive since 2011, also is based in Newark.

“They are a team of highly experienced litigators with substantial trial experience,” LeClairRyan Freinberg said of the new team. “This will help us to expand our litigation strength and take advantage of our national footprint.”

Coming over from Clyde & Co. are Jeffrey O’Hara, Matthew Bauer, Bryan Couch and Matthew Schultz, who join LeClairRyan as partners.

Six associates also have come on board: Catherine Bryan, Patrick During, Laura Fedyna, Kelly Krug, Bathiya Sheriffdeen and Justin Vogel. One law clerk, two paralegals and two other staff members round out the new hires. They primarily focus on defending casualty cases involving catastrophic events.

LeClairRyan was founded in Richmond and has 67 attorneys here, Freinberg said. It has two Richmond offices, one on East Franklin Street and another in Riverfront Plaza on East Byrd Street. The firm has about 350 attorneys in offices across the country.

The firm has been in growth mode over the past few years, tacking on teams of attorneys and entire firms.

Its most recent expansion came in October 2013, when it absorbed Annapolis, Md.-based Adelman, Sheff & Smith.

Freinberg said LeClairRyan could see more growth as early as the first quarter but would not provide specifics.

“We certainly have plans to grow and expand our geographic footprint,” he said.
