A Carytown business has spun its last yarn.
After almost nine years of operating at 3003 W. Cary St., the Yarn Lounge closed in December.
Stewart Allen, who launched the shop in 2005, plans to focus on graphic design work.
“It was time for me,” Allen said of the decision to close. “I was just ready to move on to something else.”
Allen said she tried selling the business but didn’t find a buyer. She held a liquidation sale in December and sold everything within two weeks. In addition to selling knitting materials and accessories, the shop offered classes in knitting and crocheting. The Yarn Lounge had eight employees.
Wanda M. Garrett of HTR Commercial is representing the landlord in the search for a tenant for the 2,500-square-foot space. Garret said the space would be available Feb. 1 and that the landlord is looking for another retailer.
“A lot of people who have contacted me are already in Carytown,” Garret said.
