While local breweries seem to garner nonstop attention, a locally based firm that distributes other sorts of booze continues to show its clout with an expansion into the Midwest.

The Winebow Group, a wine and liquor distributor headquartered in Innsbrook, closed this week on its purchase of Purple Feet Wines in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Purple Feet transaction is the company’s first acquisition. The Winebow Group was created through the 2014 merger of New York-based Winebow and Ashland’s the Vintner Group.

Prior to that merger, the Vintner Group had expanded into Florida, New York, Georgia and other states through several acquisitions. It was founded in Richmond in 1980.

Winebow Group spokesperson Teresa Low said the addition of Purple Feet gives the company a distribution territory that covers the entire state of Wisconsin. It’s the 16th state that Winebow now operates in.

The company imports and distributes wines from all over the world as well as liquor.

For its Virginia distribution, the company operates mainly through its Country Vintner brand. It has separate brands in each of its other markets, and it typically maintains the names of the companies it has acquired. The Purple Feet brand will remain in Wisconsin.

In addition to its Innsbrook headquarters at 4800 Cox Road, Winebow operates a warehouse and distribution facility at 12305 North Lakeridge Parkway in Ashland.
