Tuesday’s frigid weather didn’t discourage hundreds from queuing up outside for a chance to land a job at Stone Brewing Co.’s new Richmond facility.

The California-based beer maker held a job fair yesterday at the Powhatan Community Center in Richmond’s East End, fielding interest from a crowd of job seekers looking to fill 88 positions at the company’s forthcoming 200,000-square-foot brewery at 4300 Williamsburg Ave.

A mid-day tally from Stone counted more than 600 people vying for a job.

Among the many applicants in line was Terrence Bunson, a 26-year-old who currently works at Dean Foods Co. near Highland Springs making butter and oil. He said he hopes to become a brewer at Stone to be closer to his house.

Jobs available at Stone’s Richmond operation include brewers, brewing supervisor, engineering interns, information technology technician, maintenance technician, packaging supervisor, quality assurance microbiologist technician, quality assurance sensory coordinator, quality assurance supervisor, and store workers.

Ryan, a 34-year-old Midlothian resident who did not want to give his last name, recently lost a job and said he hoped to play up his familiarity with brewing and graphic design to land a gig at Stone.

Another 200 employees will eventually be needed to staff Stone’s World Bistro & Gardens restaurant, which is to be built over the next couple of years.

Operations at the brewery are expected to begin in the spring. Construction on the facility broke ground last February. Hourigan Construction is handling the work.

The brewery is being built with the help of funding from the city, which will issue bonds for the construction and will own the facility and lease it to Stone.

Don’t get your hopes up… my niece works for them in CA and says it’s not the best company to work for… low wages and inept HR.

See their GlassDoor reviews – pretty meh. I guess the free beer is a good benefit for some!
