Hard Hat Happy Hour: Party time at Gateway Plaza

BizSense brought a small army to downtown’s newest tower on Wednesday night – and a party broke out.

The inaugural Hard Hat Happy Hour, the first in our new quarterly event series, took place on the unfinished ninth floor of Gateway Plaza, an 18-story office building at 120 S. Ninth St.

More than 200 people were in attendance to schmooze, imbibe and take in the view. We also heard a bit about how the building came to be from Tom Schroyer, a principal from Clayco, the company that developed the tower, as well as Colliers International broker Andrew Ferguson, who’s tasked with filling the building with tenants.

The goal of Hard Hat Happy Hour is to give BizSense readers an inside view of the area’s most talked-about new real estate projects and a chance to see these sites as they take shape through various stages of development.

We’re already scouting out locations for the next one, to be held in early June. And we’re open to ideas, so if you have any ideas for interesting new developments that could play host for the evening, please drop us a line.

A special thank you to the sponsors of the event: Keiter, Safe Harbor Title, S.B. Cox, Timmons Group, TowneBank, Colliers and Postbellum. And an extra special thank you to the event’s presenting sponsor, Sands Anderson.

And many thanks to all in attendance. The first one was a sell-out, and we’re looking forward to keeping the party going every quarter.

Cheers until the next one, and enjoy this slideshow from the evening, photographed by Tom Veazey.
