Months after opening a location in Virginia Beach, a West Coast truck parts retailer has shifted its Virginia store count into second with a new spot in Midlothian.
4 Wheel Parts opened June 22 at 8400 Midlothian Turnpike. The Compton, California-based company leased a 13,400-square-foot space next to Northern Tool + Equipment.
Launched in 1961, 4 Wheel Parts sells and installs Jeep and truck accessories, like lift kits, lights and wheels. The company is owned by Transamerican Auto Parts and has 75 locations in North America.
“We sell toys,” said Brent Goegebuer, a 4 Wheel Parts spokesperson. “We don’t sell anything you need. We sell things that are fun.”
He said the company liked the Midlothian location’s proximity to a busy road and complementary business in Northern Tool.
4 Wheel Parts opened its first Virginia location in Virginia Beach in 2015. Goegebuer said the company moved into Virginia because it gets online orders from the area. He said more Virginia locations are in the works as 4 Wheel Parts looks to expand northeast.
Richmond store manager Brian Holmberg said 4 Wheel Parts has seven full-time employees in Midlothian. A grand opening is planned for July 16. He said tickets at checkout have averaged between $1,500 and $2,500.
“We’ve been swamped,” Holmberg said.
Brian Glass, a broker with Colliers International, represented 4 Wheel Parts in the leasing of its Richmond space. He said the property formerly housed a Honda motorcycle shop and was vacant for about a year.
