A McLean-based IT company is making its first move into Richmond.

IQ Business Group (IQBG), which helps business and government clients store and manage data, is opening an office at 4701 Cox Road in Innsbrook. The firm has a long-term lease for the roughly 2,500-square-foot office space.

CEO Mike Beck said Richmond offers many potential clients.

“Richmond has a very credible pipeline of tech resources,” Beck said. “It’s also a center of a lot of enterprising info content management clients.”

IQBG has managed data for Capital One, Philip Morris, and various Virginia state agencies. It currently counts the Virginia State Bar as one of its biggest clients. The office will be used as a technical center.

iqbg-logoBeck said IQBG always has had a strong relationship with VCU, with some of its employees working for the VCU engineering and business schools. IQBG plans to recruit VCU graduates as employees.

“In Richmond, you’ve got a hotbed of clients, as well as a hotbed of engineering talent,” Beck said. “It’s a great way for us to attract really smart talent.”

IQBG has plans to recruit at VCU job fairs, and part of its employment package is student debt relief.

The office has 10 employees, and Beck said he hopes to double that by year’s end. The company also has sales offices in Atlanta, Boston, Austin, Chicago and New York.

IQBG isn’t the only new arrival in Innsbrook. Dominion Shoppes, a retail strip near the entrance of the business park, is under construction and has a full slate of tenants lined up.
