Technical glitch: The BizSense comments section

Dear loyal BizSense readers,

Many of you have noticed in recent weeks (and graciously taken time to let us know) that there are problems with posting comments on BizSense stories.

It’s true, our comments system is out of whack. New comments aren’t showing up on story pages, nor are past comments from all our prior stories.

Here’s what’s happening and why:

The problem arose Sept. 1 when we launched a new version of the BizSense website. The redesign was aimed at making the site faster and easier to use, especially on mobile. (Read more about the strategy here.)

The challenge was doing all that while still making it jive with our BizSense Pro subscription service and archive of thousands of stories from 10 years of news coverage, including all the thousands of comments posted by readers over the years.

At some point during the process, a bug worked its way into the comments system.

Presently, readers are able to submit comments to be approved by the BizSense staff, and we can see those pending comments and approve them, but they don’t appear at the bottom of stories.

That disconnect is the issue our tech guys are working to fix as we speak.

It’s killing us that this issue has lingered since Sept. 1, as we know comments are the easiest way for readers to interact with the news and keep the conversation going. We have some loyal commenters who we know are chomping at the bit to chime in. We want that to continue and are working diligently to fix the problem.

There also have been some lasting bugs for some BizSense Pro subscribers, but we’ve identified those issues and can fix them quickly. If you’re having issues logging in, email our research editor Linda Dunham at [email protected].

If you have any other technical questions or notice any other bugs in the system, please email our web editor Kieran McQuilkin at [email protected].

You’ll notice none of this has slowed down the news side, as we continue to crank out scoops that we hope are valuable in your daily business lives. And our morning email, the Newsfeed, continues as usual at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday.

We thank you for your patience and we’ll update you once we have some answers.

As one can well imagine, the distress had become so significant, I had to take a few days away from work to deal with the loss. I even began posting on the RTD online section and writing letters to the editor of MAD Magazine.

Welcome back!
