The hotel-focused real estate investment trust purchased a 210-room Hilton Garden Inn and Home2 Suites by Hilton property in Birmingham, Alabama for $38.4 million. The company’s portfolio now totals 237 hotels.

COO Kristian Gathright gifted 3,200 shares of common stock. She now directly owns 939,100 shares.

CarMax (KMX)

Director Thomas Folliard sold 16,000 shares of common stock at prices ranging from $67.50 to $69.27 for a total of $1,094,160.

Union Bankshares (UBSH)

The company’s Union Bank & Trust subsidiary hired David Ring as executive vice president and commercial banking group executive effective Sept. 27. Ring, 53, was most recently executive managing director at Huntington National Bank, a $74 billion bank headquartered in Ohio. He’s had other stints at First Niagara Financial Group and Wachovia Bank and Wells Fargo. He has a bachelor’s degree from Providence College.

Union set a date for its shareholders to vote on its proposed acquisition of Richmond-based Xenith Bankshares. A special shareholders meeting will be held on the matter on Oct. 26, at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center in Roanoke at 9 a.m.

Corrugated packaging president Jeffrey Wayne Chalovich exercised options for 18,368 shares of common stock, selling them at $58.41 per share for a total of $1,072,874.

Xenith Bankshares (XBKS)

Xenith will hold a meeting for its shareholders to vote on the Union deal. It will also be held Oct. 26 and will take place at Xenith’s headquarters at James Center at 901 East Cary St. at 10 a.m.
