A Utah-based retailer that gives old clothes a second home is adding a second home of its own in the Richmond market.

Uptown Cheapskate has signed a lease for a 4,100-square-foot store at 1403-D Huguenot Road in the TownePlace shopping center in Midlothian, joining its Short Pump location that opened last year.

The chain, which buys and sells modern clothes, shoes and accessories, has more than 50 locations nationwide and sells franchises for stores.

Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer brokers Connie Jordan Nielsen and Nicki Jassy represented the landlords in the TownePlace lease, while Hometown Realty’s Heath King represented the the tenant.

The store is aiming for a February or March opening.

Uptown Cheapskate operates under Basecamp Franchising, which also owns Kid to Kid, a secondhand store for children’s clothing that also has shops in Midlothian and Short Pump.

Uptown Cheapskate could not be reached for comment about the Midlothian expansion. It has an initial franchise fee of $25,000 and start-up costs for a store range from $260,000 to $443,000, according to its website.

TownePlace, located near Chesterfield Towne Center, is a 15,000-square-foot retail development on the site of the former Huguenot Forest office complex.

The secondhand store will open between Cava Grill and First Watch Cafe, neither of which have opened yet. Pizza chain Mellow Mushroom opened in the development last June.

Another secondhand retailer with roots in the Mountain Time Zone is on its way to Richmond, as well.

Tucson, Arizona-based Buffalo Exchange is opening its first area shop in 3140-B W. Cary St. in Carytown. The shop is looking to open in February in the former Janet Brown Interiors space.
