System, method, and computer program product for detecting access to a memory device
Patent No. 10,032,019
Discrete events that take place with respect to a hard disk drive or other I/O device or port are indicated to logic that implements Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) or similar technology. These events are communicated to SMART as event data. Examples of such discrete events include power on, power off, spindle start, and spindle stop, positioning of the actuator, and the time at which such events occur. SMART then compiles event data to create compiled activity data. Compiled activity data represents summary statistical information that is created by considering some or all of the event data. Examples of compiled activity data include the Time Powered On and Power Cycle Count. Collection logic then writes the compiled activity data to a memory medium. An analyst can then read data from log file(s).

Banded papers, smoking articles and methods
Patent No. 10,028,524
Wrapper for cigarette manufacture includes transversely extending band regions applied by a printing technique, such as gravure printing. The band regions comprise starch, an anti-wrinkling agent such as 1,2 propylene glycol or glycerin, and optionally calcium carbonate. Any suitable printing technique can be used to apply the aqueous solution to the banded regions. The pattern of banded regions may be bands, stripes, two-dimensional arrays, undulated regions, and the like along and/or around the tobacco rod. The pattern can be applied in one or more layers. The pattern may be configured so that when a smoking article is placed on a substrate, at least two longitudinal locations along the length of the tobacco rod have film-forming compound located only on sides of the smoking article not in contact with the substrate.

Immobilized additive inserts
Patent No. 10,028,523
Delivery of additives in a smoking article is provided through thermally degradable, robust immobilized additive inserts. Additives can be immobilized in an elongated device or an insert, wherein the elongated device or the insert is sufficiently robust to allow the elongated device or the insert to be manually or machine inserted into a smoking article while maintaining the structure of the elongated device or the insert. By providing additives in the form of thermally degradable immobilized additive inserts, migration and/or loss of the additives in a smoking article prior to smoking can be reduced.

Adaptive epsilon-tube filter for blunt noise removal
Patent No. 10,034,638
Techniques for motion artifact (MA) reduction in impedance plethysmography (IP) and other physiological signals are provided. The techniques limit the amplitude of MA filtered signals by imposing an “.epsilon.-tube.” The techniques may include the introduction of a regularization term to ensure that the pattern of a filtered signal is similar to the pattern of the primary component of the original, unfiltered signal by maximizing the regularity of the filtered signal. The techniques may be integrated into a portable monitoring device, such as an armband, to remove MA from various diagnostic signals and to extract primary signal components for producing enhanced device performance.
