Supervisors last week voted to defer public hearings on the 323-acre Lake District at Glen Allen mixed-use development proposed by Boyd Homes at the request of the applicant. The case was deferred to the board’s Jan. 23, 2019 meeting.
Henrico
County Manager John Vithoulkas reported that last week’s snowfall cost Henrico $1.1 million for services, including treating roads with 1,500 tons of salt and deicing materials. Road crews operated on 12-hour rotating shifts and dispatched 100 pieces of equipment with assistance from eight contractors.
Also at last week’s supervisors meeting, the board approved items incorporating objectives of the Westwood Study Area and Route 5 Corridor Study in the county’s comprehensive plan. A public hearing on a proposed self-service storage facility at Woodman and Mountain roads was deferred from last week’s supervisors meeting to their regular meeting Jan. 22, 2019.
Supervisors also approved a board paper deferring a decision on whether to proceed with negotiations on two proposals being considered for design and construction of an indoor sports and convocation center. The county is requesting that more information be included in the proposals from Eastern Sports Management LLC and MEB General Contractors. Consulting firm The Working Group would make a recommendation on negotiations by Feb. 14.

The planning commission meets at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Business on the regular agenda includes an item to declare the commission’s intent to amend the city’s zoning ordinance to accommodate the Navy Hill redevelopment project proposed by NH District Corp. and endorsed last month by Mayor Levar Stoney.
City Council meets at 6 p.m. Monday for its last regular meeting of the year, rescheduled from last week due to snowfall. Business on the schedule also included creation of the Navy Hill Development Advisory Commission to review the proposal by NH District Corp. that Mayor Levar Stoney endorsed and would present to council. Council also will consider an offer from Enrichmond Foundation to gift Vauxhall Island to the city and preserve it as part of the James River Park System.
Other council business includes requests to rezone properties at Chamberlayne Avenue and School Street for residential development, and to allow a 59-unit townhome development near Stony Point Shopping Center and a 224-unit apartment complex on Brook Road near Virginia Union University.
