After buying a larger house with a river view last year, a local lawyer couple is putting a multimillion-dollar price tag on the lake-view home they’re now looking to unload.

Amy and Steven Williams have put their 8,200-square-foot house at 900 Westover Road on the market. The five-bedroom, 4½-bathroom house overlooking Byrd Park’s Shields Lake has an asking price of $2.65 million.

The century-old, Mediterranean-style house hit the market Monday after appearing as a “coming soon” listing a week earlier. Joyner Fine Properties’ Karen Stephen has the listing, which had a no-show period until Thursday.

Stephens, who also represented the Williamses in their nearly $3 million purchase of 1224 Rothesay Circle last year, said the couple has since been renovating that home and is now ready to put the Westover house up for sale.

Amy is a partner at downtown law firm Hunton Andrews Kurth, while Steven, also an attorney, is retired. Amy also founded Amy’s Army of Cancer Warriors, a local nonprofit supporting cancer research and VCU Massey Cancer Center.

Stephens said the couple put in a comparable effort on Westover, adding gardens with a terrace and fountains to the property’s double lot, which totals about three quarters of an acre.

City property records show they paid $1.05 million. The latest city assessment valued the property at $1.83 million.

Built in 1922 and designed by architect Isaac Skinner for James Crass, founder of the Central Coca-Cola Bottling Co., the Italianate brick house has been written up over the years as a standout example of 20th century architecture. At more than 8,000 square feet and on a double lot, it also stands out among its neighbors in William Byrd Terrace.

“When they first called me, I must’ve asked them two or three times, ‘Why do you want to look at another house? Why would you want to move,’ because I’ve always thought their house is one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen in Richmond,” Stephens said.

“I know that’s not what you usually hear from your Realtor when you call her to look at an expensive home in Rothesay, but that’s what I replied with,” she said.

Featuring a curved staircase, the century-old house was designed by noted architect Isaac Skinner.

Renovated with modern upgrades, the Westover house features a portico that opens to a center hall and curved staircase. The master suite includes a Kohler Effervescence bath with an infinity edge tub and steam shower.

The property includes a carriage house with additional space for guests, a playroom and two-car garage. Outside, a swimming pool separates the structures from the gardens, terrace and fountains.

Stephens said she is marketing the listing with a cover spread in local magazine Estates & Homes, as well as through Joyner’s platform and on social media. She said Amy’s social media reach through Amy’s Army would give the listing an additional boost.

Stephens said she’s received inquiries on the listing since it became active Monday, and she had about 25 people signed up for an agent preview and lunch she hosted at the property Thursday. She said tours of the home and gardens would be conducted in adherence with social distancing — something she said would be easier given the property’s size.

“There’s plenty of room in the gardens for social distancing,” she said. “The house is a little over 8,000 square feet, so there’s plenty of space for people to roam and not overlap each other.”

By Friday, the house had been put under contract and was listed as pending.

The house isn’t the only seven-figure listing on Westover Road. A few doors down, a new-construction, modern-design house at 810 Westover remains for sale after hitting the market for nearly $2 million last year. The 5,400-square-foot house has since come down in price to just below $1.9 million.

really? Shockingly fast for that price point. But not for that house. Might be the nicest house in Richmond

I have been in that house. It’s utterly gorgeous. I wonder why they are leaving, I just don’t see how the new place can be nicer

Their new one is on the river. They mentioned in a previous article if that one ever hit the market they would move. It’s equally stunning. There is a link to it in the beginning of the article.
