The coronavirus has claimed another Richmond restaurant.
Metro Bar & Grill has closed permanently at 301 N. Robinson St. in the Fan. Landlord Jeanne Bridgforth confirmed the closure.
Metro first opened in 1999. Joey McCullough took ownership in 2015 and has run it ever since, including revamping the bar’s menu and adding lunch service.
McCullough, who also owns a pair of local Burgerim franchises, wasn’t available for comment by press time. Bridgforth cited coronavirus as the reason for Metro’s closure.
The shuttering occurred in recent weeks. It had closed temporarily in the early days of the pandemic, before reopening for takeout and delivery service in late March.
The roughly 4,000-square-foot space is being marketed for lease by Bridgforth.
Metro is at least the second Fan eatery to close in the wake of the pandemic, with The Naked Onion at 2118 W. Cary St. closing last month.
Across the street from Metro is Kirin Asian Cuisines, a poke bowl concept in the former J Kogi and Boka Tako Bar space at 302-304 N. Robinson St.
