A local taco shop chain has snatched up a former daycare property next to its Southside location, giving it room to stretch and test out a new offshoot.

An entity tied to Don’t Look Back last month spent $370,000 to purchase the 2,600-square-foot building at 7522 Forest Hill Ave.

Hamooda Shami, managing partner of Don’t Look Back, said he plans to use the space for a retail concept, the details of which are to be determined. The property’s 0.34-acre parcel also provides space for possible expanded outdoor seating and additional parking spaces for Don’t Look Back South at 7524 Forest Hill Ave.

“I’m excited about it because it’ll be a different model I’ve always had interest in while fulfilling the vital role of supporting Don’t Look Back South,” Shami said of the retail idea. The company has another location, Don’t Look Back Triple, at 3306 W. Broad St. in Scott’s Addition.

The deal closed Aug. 20. The property was most recently valued at $370,000. Annie O’Connor of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer represented the buyer. Amy Broderick and Baker Lynn, also of Thalhimer, represented sellers Tanisha Brown and Carl Brown Jr.

The exact offerings of the retail space, number of parking spaces and how many new outdoor tables will be involved haven’t been hashed out yet, Shami said. An expansion of Don’t Look Back South’s patio would likely connect the buildings.

“We do want to support the business and keep it fun for us and for the customer,” he said.
