A Richmond-based chain of surgery centers has a new tool in its West Creek repertoire.

MEDARVA Healthcare, which runs two local surgery centers, announced on Sept. 21 it had opened a new outpatient imaging center in West Creek Medical Park near Short Pump.

The 5,800-square-foot facility, at 1630 Wilkes Ridge Pkwy Suite 100, offers diagnostic imaging services like X-rays, CT scans and MRIs.

It’s in the same building as one of MEDARVA’s surgery centers. The other is at 8700 Stony Point Parkway Suite 100 near Stony Point Fashion Park.

MEDARVA is working with Radiology Association of Richmond to interpret imaging scans from the center, which currently has three full-time employees as well as a per-diem staffer.

Kara Sigmon, the center’s director of radiology, said the company is betting on its location, right off Broad Street’s intersection with Route 288 and near I-64, and the fact that it gives patients an alternative to hospital-based radiology centers in the time of COVID.

“As a freestanding facility, MEDARVA’s imaging center is not located in a hospital where patients could be exposed to congested areas like waiting rooms, have to search for parking, or walk long distances to where they are receiving care,” she said in an email.

MEDARVA did not disclose the cost to establish the center. Price Simpson Harvey was the architect. Emerald Construction was the contractor.

MEDARVA joins other medical outfits clustered near the Henrico-Goochland line.

Sheltering Arms Institute, a joint Sheltering Arms Hospital and VCU inpatient rehabilitation facility, opened at 2000 Wilkes Ridge Drive this summer.

On the other side of town, radiological services providers Dominion Imaging and sister practice Virginia Interventional & Vascular Associates have set up shop in the Brookfield Commons building at 6600 W. Broad St. in Henrico County.
