The clock has expired on a longtime Short Pump restaurant, but a new, mystery addition to the area’s dining scene is in the works within eyeshot.

The Buffalo Wild Wings at 4300 Pouncey Tract Road has closed after 14 years in business at the Short Pump Commons shopping center.

It’s the second local Buffalo Wild Wings to close within the last year, joining the Shockoe Slip outpost that served its last wing last summer. There are now seven Buffalo Wild Wings throughout the region.

The sports bar’s 6,700-square-foot space in Short Pump is now being marketed for lease by Thalhimer’s Nicki Jassy and Annie O’Connor.

Meanwhile, across the parking lot, plans have been filed for a new restaurant building with a drive-thru at 11600 W. Broad St.

The plans were filed shortly after Buffalo Wild Wings’ closure by the owner of the Regal Cinemas-anchored Downtown Short Pump center, Site Centers.

The 2,000-square-foot restaurant building would rise on a parking lot between Barnes & Noble and Jared, but it’s unclear what would occupy the restaurant. A user is not mentioned in county plans for the project, and Site Centers, an Ohio-based firm that was formerly known as DDR Corp., did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

A bit farther down Broad Street toward Short Pump Town Center, the new Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille is taking shape at 11788 W. Broad St., a site that had formerly housed Bar Louie. It’ll be the first location in the Richmond area for the Texas-based chain.

As a huge sports fan and wing connoisseur, this Short Pump staple truly held a special place in my heart. May it rest in peace!

Looking forward to a new offering in that space. Surprised BWW last this long. There never seemed to be anyone in there and it had all the ambience of a high school cafeteria.
