A busy local restaurateur couple are reshuffling their holdings in the region.
Adrienne and Carlos Londoño have handed off Casa Fiesta Mexican Kitchen & Cantina at 1218 E. Cary St. in Shockoe Slip to a new, undisclosed operator.
A sign posted on the restaurant’s window last week states that the business was sold and notes that a new Thai restaurant is coming soon to the space.
The Londoños also recently made a similar play with Tequila Sunrise Mexican Kitchen & Cantina, which they opened at 11581 Robious Road in Chesterfield last year. That business is now set to become a sports bar called 123 Dzo.
The Londoños didn’t respond to multiple calls seeking comment by press time. The couple had leased both the Casa Fiesta and Tequila Sunrise buildings.
Quan Tran, owner of 123 Dzo, declined to comment for this story.
Natives of New York, the Londoños already have a significant presence in Shockoe with Papi’s, La Bodega and Margarita’s Cantina. Casa Fiesta initially opened as Mijas in 2017, but was rebranded to Casa Fiesta in early 2021. The couple added Papi’s, an LGBT-friendly late night spot, a year later.
They opened Tequila Sunrise last year as their first foray into the counties.
However, it’s not only a season of consolidation for the Londoños. Last week they filed permits with the city for a new concept, Queens Comfort, in the former City Dogs space at 1316 E. Cary St., just up the street from Casa Fiesta.
City Dogs closed in the spring at 1316 E. Cary St. after 16 years in the Slip, while keeping its Fan location at 1309 W. Main St. open.
A few blocks northeast, at 1116 E. Main St., another restaurateur couple, Joy Supanya and Jon Niemiec, are preparing to open a new fish-and-chips joint, The British Embassy.
Glad it is going to be a Thai place. There are already plenty of Mexican places in that area.
