A high-end building materials company from the Iberian Peninsula has just opened the doors on its first Richmond location.
Cosentino is now operating its new showroom at 1324 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd. in the former Mowbray Paint Co. building at the edge of Scott’s Addition.
The storefront, which spans around 4,500 square feet of the 125-year-old, 6,800-square-foot building, has several design studios, material workshops and open meeting spaces where customers can come to see the Spanish company’s products.
Cosentino produces and distributes a variety of materials used in interior design. Its products include “Silestone,” a hybrid surface made of minerals and recycled materials, “Dekton,” a porcelain surface, and “Sensa,” a stain-resistant granite. The company was founded in 1979 in Spain’s Almería region.
The Richmond showroom is the company’s first in Virginia.
The modern-design space features areas like the so-called “atelier,” a material workshop and creative studio where customers can look at Cosentino’s surfaces, textiles, tiles, cabinetry and fixtures, along with digital displays of Cosentino’s stone slabs. It also has a “bath studio” with design inspiration for customers’ bathrooms.
Integrated throughout the showroom are products from a variety of global design brands, from Spanish-based carpet manufacturer Naturtex to lighting manufacturer Vibia.
Cosentino said in a press release that it aims for the Richmond location to serve as a resource hub for local architects, designers and clients.
The Mowbray family sold the then 121-year-old building in 2021 to local businessman Carrington Williams for $1.65 million and relocated the paint business to Gayton Road in Henrico.
Cosentino finalized its lease with Williams in 2023 and was represented by Colliers International’s Peter Vick and Harrison Hall. Divaris Real Estate’s Read Goode represented the landlord.
“The location in Scott’s Addition is not only inspiring for its rich, historic character, but also for its vibrant ongoing transformation into Richmond’s most dynamic and up-and-coming district,” Cosentino Americas CEO Eduardo Cosentino said in a release.
Renovations of the building for Cosentino began in early 2024. The company said it invested $1.5 million in the project.
There are 13 Cosentino City showrooms across the U.S. and 45 worldwide, per the Cosentino website. Richmond joins the likes of major international cities like New York, Tokyo, London and Paris with showrooms from the brand.
Cosentino expansion director Antonio Aguilar told BizSense last year that Cosentino chose to open in Richmond “based on the potential we saw in the market.”
The brand currently has a plan to open four Cosentino City showrooms per year worldwide, he added.
The Richmond showroom has a staff of two, including general manager Sara Hassan. Cosentino has around 6,000 employees total.
“As the local design community continues to grow, Cosentino City Richmond, in the heart of the Scott’s Addition Historic District, will serve as a valuable resource for designers and homeowners alike as they work on their next project,” Hassan said in a statement to BizSense.
Cosentino is now open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment.
Elsewhere in Scott’s Addition, interior design firm JTW Design recently purchased a West Leigh Street building for its new headquarters from seller Ocean Drywall.

As an architect based in the city, this is an outstanding location and resource for us and clients.
Agreed!
so just a showroom, no sales and install I assume?
Most of their products are sold to fabricators. Tile would be purchased by installers, contracted by clients or contractors.
Should be interesting to see how it does in the throes of tariffs and high mortgage rates.
That’s a very good point, Landon. I’ve been quite concerned about how Washington’s economic policy decisions will impact construction in Richmond. When interest rates were slashed three times in the second half of last year, a tremendous number of long-dormant projects that had been stuck in the development pipeline got underway quickly. More stalled projects joined early this year. But as certain policies in D.C. are put in place, I have great trepidation of what the overall impact will be on construction & development locally. I hope and pray that developers, contractors & sub-contractors are able to obtain what they… Read more »
