New networking organization connects Short Pump businesses

When Stan Bohanon moved to Richmond from Williamsburg, there were plenty of networking groups to choose from all over town. But Bohanon had the vision of building a different kind of networking organization. He’s now the Founder and President of the recently-organized Glen Allen Business & Professional Association.

BizSense reported June 1 that Snagajob, one of the fastest growing companies in Richmond, had laid off 6 employees. Since that story ran, two sources familiar with the company said that two more have been let go for performance reasons, bringing the headcount is down to 120, or about 14 percent less than peak employment of 140 in December.

Dr. Laura Regan, doing business as James River Dermatology, purchased the 3,000 square feet office condo at 1316 Alverser Drive in Chesterfield from Village Bank for $575,000.Synergy Systems, Inc. leased 9,000 square feet at 4510 Cox Road in Henrico.

French bistro coming to the Slip

Dubbed Bouchon, the restaurant will dish up Provençal cuisine from chef Francis Devilliers. Bouchon, which is French for “traffic jam”, is being retrofitted at 1209 E. Cary St. in the space previously occupied by Pomegranate Euro Bistro. The owners, who met while on vacation in the Caribbean, hope to open at by the end of July for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday.

ARC to the rescue? Probably not

Several small business owners have contacted BizSense and said all the local banks they called were either not interested in the ARC program, or still trying to figure out how it works. Local bankers say the loans don’t offer enough payoff for the effort.
