There are two new pizza joints on scene in Short Pump. This past week, eco-friendly chain Pizza Fusion opened a location at Short Pump Station near Trader Joe’s. The company prides itself on using organic ingredients and earth-friendly suppliers. Meanwhile, the Bottom’s Up on Nuckols Road changed hands.
According to the ’s website for Pizza Fusion, the pizza parlor gives customers discounts on their next order for returning their cardboard pizza boxes for recycling, and deliver pizza using only hybrid vehicles. The chain’s motto is “Saving The World One Pizza At A Time.”
Last week also marked the end of the Nuckols Road Bottoms Up Pizza location in the Twin Hickory Town Center. Owner James Jones said the Short Pump location’s pizza wasn’t held in the same regard as the original Shockoe Bottom restaurant, despite the fact that, according to Jones, all pizza ingredients used were identical. The restaurant’s new name, under the same ownership, is Paradise Pizza. The restaurant has added a new thin crust pizza to the menu (Bottoms Up has been known solely for their deep dish pizzas).

It is interesting that so many strong Richmond brands have struggled in the West End. Joe’s Inn, Texas-Wisconsin Border Cafe, Bottom’s Up and Pleasant’s Hardware (to name a few) failed to catch on with West End locations.
I was extremely impressed by the food and service at the newly-branded Paradise Pizza.
Despite the newly named restaurant having the same owners as when they were called Bottoms Up, they will not honor Bottoms Up coupons with an expiration date of November of 2009 (from The Entertainment Book, which happens to cost money), specific only to the Nuckols Road location with the address clearly noted on the coupon. That’s an interesting way to get people to your door, which I will remember next time. At least there’s always Nonna’s 50 yards away next door to Starbucks. Nonna’s Italian Pizzeria – 11321 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059 – 804-346-0088
Love the change up to thin crust!
Good food, great location, experienced management and pleasant staff-Its refreshing to come back from the 7th inning stretch and find out it’s a whole new ball game! Somebody gets it- Fine work Paradise Pizza!
