The Muse Awards honor extraordinary creativity in Virginia business. The Awards are open to all for-profit Virginia businesses. Business organizations, professional groups and councils are encouraged to nominate themselves or other businesses that exhibit unique and creative approaches.
Begun in 2005, the Muse Awards are sponsored by VMFA’s Business Council, which offers a forum for leaders and entrepreneurs to come together to acknowledge the major role that creativity plays in Virginia industry.
Application and nomination forms are available on the museum’s website. Application forms may also be requested from Elizabeth Lowsley-Williams, VMFA’s corporate relations manager; e-mail [email protected] or fax (804) 340-1465.
A list of past VMFA Muse Awards winners is online at mediaroom.vmfa.museum/musepastwinners.htm.
“Last year’s awards attracted a broad spectrum of compelling, exciting and innovative companies that really sought to inspire, engage and challenge traditional thinking”, says Charles Ajemian, creative director at NC4 and VMFA Business Council communications committee chair. “Our goal is to recognize and award creative genius through the Muse Awards and to build a bridge between the corporate community and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.”
Winners receive a year’s corporate membership at the museum and a cast-aluminum spiral trophy patterned after a chambered nautilus, which is meant to symbolize the natural evolution of creativity.
The Muse Awards program culminates with an Un-Gala celebration at VMFA. The closely guarded theme of the party changes each year and is a creative departure from traditional awards ceremonies.
“One thing is certain about the 2009 Un-Gala,” says John Lucas, vice-chair of the Business Council. “The museum itself will reflect the theme, and guests will be surprised and delighted.” The 2009 event will be April 30.
