The Greater Richmond Technology Council today honored several local organizations and individuals that are actively helping advance Central Virginia’s technology-based economy.
And did that paragraph just say “Greater Richmond Technology Council”? Unveiled at the 14th annual Technology Stars awards gala was a rebranded name for the group: RichTech, which comes along with updated, modern logo and tagline, “Create Connections.” A revamped RichTech.com, the organization’s longtime Web site, will also be launched in the weeks to come.
“Rebranding the council was part of our strategic plan, and the name better reflects the fact that many of our members are not necessarily technology companies, but are simply using technology in ways to create stronger, sustainable businesses,” said Chip Farmer, Executive Director of RichTech. “Technology is about connecting, and that’s something every organization and individual requires.”
More than 550 people attended the Technology Stars gala, held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The awards this year were structured in a way that recognized individual accomplishments, corporate wins, non-profit success stories, innovators in their field, and small businesses.
“This is RichTech’s 14th year of celebrating innovation, perseverance, and investment in the future of our region and beyond,” said Margaret E. “Lyn” McDermid, Senior Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at Dominion, and RichTech Chair. “Given the current challenges we are facing in today’s economy, it was exciting and encouraging to recognize the value of technology in our community through very deserving nominees and award winners.”
