RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (January 19, 2010) — John O’Neill, founder of the socially-conscious design firm Thinkhaus and a 2009 Style Weekly Top 40 Under 40 honoree, hosts haustalk, a bi-monthly forum examining the intersection and influence of design and community. The February edition of haustalk will explore the power of story through the panel discussion, Tell Remarkable Stories That Will Influence Others. Several members of the 2009 class of Top 40 Under 40 will serve as panelists, including Duron Chavis, Casey Longyear, John Dougherty and Monique Johnson.
“I am honored to have been recognized [as a Top 40 Under 40 honoree], but with that comes added responsibility,” says Johnson, Community Housing Officer at Virginia Housing Development Authority. “We have such a broad array of backgrounds and experiences. If we connected our individual passions, drive and creativity, we could exponentially expand our spheres of influence.”
Central to the discussion will be an examination of why sharing your story is key to connecting with and influencing others, how to tell your story with truth and impact, and how to determine the right time and place to share your vision.
O’Neill believes every person and enterprise has a story to share, and that storytelling is not only an essential part of the human spirit, but one of the most powerful tools for communicating a message, point of view or call to action.
“Everyone has challenges, difficult times and uplifting moments to share that can inspire and influence others,” says O’Neill. “By sharing these stories with each other, we strengthen our professional and personal bonds, which in turn strengthen our community.”
Story and social media strategist Casey Quinlan, the Mighty Mouth of Mighty Casey Media, will moderate the panel discussion. Casey works with individuals and enterprises to help them tell their remarkable stories and communicate their value to others.
Haustalk will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at Baja Bean Co., 1520 W. Main St. in Richmond. Free and open to the public.
