RICHMOND, Va., Mar. 9, 2010 – Mondial Assistance, a global travel insurance and assistance company with U.S. operations in Henrico County, today announced their 2010 travel scholarship program, ScholarTrips, which is available to Richmond area middle and high school students. The new scholarship replaces the Access Abroad scholarship, offered since 2004 to Henrico County middle and high school students. Four recipients will receive scholarships of $2,500 for study abroad programs. The scholarships will be presented by Mondial Assistance President and CEO Jon Ansell at a ceremony at the company’s headquarters (2805 N. Parham Road).
Students can apply by visiting the Mondial Assistance ScholarTrips website at http://scholartrips.org. An additional scholarship will be awarded to the child or grandchild of a Mondial Assistance associate. Those applying for the scholarship must complete an application form that includes an essay describing their reasons for travel and what they expect to learn. The deadline for applications is April 5.
“We are thrilled that the ScholarTrips scholarship will provide important travel and education opportunities for students in the Richmond region,” Ansell said. “Every day Mondial Assistance is part of our customers’ travel experiences and we are proud to support these young people as they pursue their own travel adventures. Mondial Assistance depends on foreign-language skills—more than 40 different languages are spoken at our offices in Richmond—so we are keenly appreciative of the value of being exposed to different cultures.”
Esha Doshi, a student who traveled to Costa Rica on a Mondial scholarship in 2008, said, “Having the opportunity to go to Costa Rica was an adventure, a fantasy, a dream, and a tremendously beneficial experience. This journey has expanded my knowledge of a culture I had never before been exposed to.”
