Mondial Assistance Wins Two Workplace Awards

Richmond, Va., May 18, 2011—Henrico-based Mondial Assistance USA today announced that it has received awards for community involvement and encouraging a healthy lifestyle for its associates. The Employer All-Star award was presented by the Richmond Society for Human Resource Management (RSHRM) and the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) and the Platinum Fit-Friendly award was presented by the American Heart Association (AHA).

“Receiving both an Employer All-Star and a Platinum Fit-Friendly award shows we’re on the right path to being the Richmond region’s employer of choice,” said Mark Cipolletti, vice president for communications and community relations at Mondial Assistance. “Helping to give our associates the tools they need for a healthy lifestyle and supporting causes our associates are passionate about help us make that goal a reality.”

The Employer All-Star Community Involvement Award recognizes the company’s volunteerism and financial support of charitable organizations, educational organizations and community service groups. This is the first Employer All-Star award for Mondial Assistance, and reflects a recent emphasis at the company on corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Mondial Assistance has a dedicated, associate-driven CSR team, which guides the company’s charitable actions, including leading a process through which associates chose five organizations to receive donations ranging from $4,000 to $6,000. The CSR team also helps coordinate the company’s many volunteer projects and an annual “month of service.”

“Freedom House has been blessed to be the beneficiary of Mondial Assistance’s support through board leadership, employee volunteer involvement and philanthropic investments,” said Melba Gibbs, executive director of Freedom House. “Nonprofits such as ours could not meet the growing needs of our community without the generous support of businesses like Mondial Assistance.”

In addition to supporting various charities, ScholarTrips, the company’s international study abroad scholarship program, recently awarded five area teens $2,500 each to apply towards international study programs. Mondial Assistance was also a finalist for the Diversity Award.

This is the second year in a row the company was presented with a Fit-Friendly award from the AHA, and Mondial Assistance was one of only two Richmond-area companies to receive the top Platinum award. This award recognizes companies who go above and beyond in encouraging and promoting healthy lifestyles for their employees. The Platinum level award is only given to companies that can show a return on investment for wellness programs. Mondial Assistance’s wellness programs are coordinated by its human resources department and an associate-driven wellness committee and include an annual wellness fair.

Wellness opportunities available to every Mondial Assistance associate include a “walk club,” onsite fitness classes (including martial arts, yoga, aerobics and Zumba), gym discounts, monthly health, wellness and nutrition events, fresh fruit delivery twice a week, and free annual blood pressure, BMI, glucose and cholesterol screening in partnership with the company’s health insurance provider.

“Last year half of our associates participated in wellness programs,” said Mike Kunc, chief human resources officer for Mondial Assistance. “That shows the value of these programs to our associates.”

Last year Mondial Assistance was awarded the Gold Fit-Friendly award, the highest award available to a first-time applicant.
