Richmond, VA July 24, 2011 (7 a.m. start) – Richmond Multisports (RMS) will produce the third annual Rocketts Landing Du & Triathlon.
RMS, a triathlon event company started by local triathlete Laurie Mehler, begins its eighth season with Richmond’s only “Olympic distance” open-water triathlon consisting of a 1,500 meter swim, 40 kilometer bike and 10 kilometer run. This event benefits the Neighborhood Resource Center in Fulton Hill.
“This year participation has grown by 50% over 2010, despite soaring temperatures in July,” said Mehler, president of RMS. “We have elite local athletes participating and racers from 18 states. We are honored to have been selected as the USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region’s club championship. Top finishers will be eligible for $5,250 in prize purse cash. We are very proud to work with Rocketts Landing, Richmond’s premier riverfront community, which makes it possible to have the river access necessary to host this USA Triathlon sanctioned event. We still need more volunteers. In hot weather like this, it is tougher to get people out. www.Rockettstri.com We will have the best post race tri party with the local band Moossa to raise money to help the kids in Richmond’s East End. We also have incredible stories and acts of courage of people racing a triathlon for the first time or overcoming life’s challenges. Come out and see what it’s all about.
