After searching for a buyer for the past few months, the owners of Café Gutenberg are finally moving on.
Chefs Jen Mindell and Garret Barry bought the restaurant in January 2009 from its founders. Before they bought it, the two were employed as chefs at the restaurant.
Mindell and Barry made the announcement Thursday on the restaurant’s Facebook page:
It’s bittersweet to tell you all we have found a buyer and closed for business today. We will miss this place and all of you IMMENSELY! And our staff of course, who are scientifically proven to be the coolest people ever. Stay tuned here for details on the new owner and on our new ventures, namely the ROOSTER CART. What??? more details soon…
The Euro-style café first opened in 2003 and was closed for months after the area was hit by severe flooding caused by Tropical Storm Gaston.
Across town in the Fan, another restaurant property recently changed hands and will soon reopen with a different name.
Davis & Main has been around for more than 20 years, but owner Robert Nolan suddenly closed the restaurant in June and put the building up for sale.
Mint Restaurant LLC filed for an ABC license last week at the same address. A source who works in the restaurant industry but asked not to be named said that Julep’s owner Amy Cabaniss is behind the new venture.
Cabaniss did not return a call seeking comment by press time.

I loved the pub feel of Davis and Main (not to mention, it had a rockin’ cheeseburger), but in the end, it turned out to be sort of a high priced ticket for fairly ordinary food.
I’d love to see something there at more of a moderate price that served classics with a twist, plus fresh fish, etc.
Amy Cabaniss’ name is on the ABC application: http://www.richmondgov.com/PlanningAndDevelopmentReview/documents/reportABC_License_Review.pdf
