Allianz Global Assistance goes Red for Women with the American Heart Association

RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 23, 2012 — Henrico-based Allianz Global Assistance USA rallied to support the Richmond chapter of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign as its Healthy Lifestyle partner, raising awareness and money for women’s heart health. As part of the campaign, associates collected more than 130 pounds of pennies and spent more than 140 hours weaving a rug out of recycled red T-shirts for the Go Red for Women auction. Associates also wore red for heart health awareness on Valentine’s Day and were given the opportunity to get a photo booth picture with “Life’s Simple Seven,” the AHA’s seven steps to living a healthier life, printed on the back.

More than 30 associates participated in weaving the rag rug, which was made from T-shirts turned in by associates as part of the company’s Feb. 1 brand change from Mondial Assistance USA to Allianz Global Assistance USA. After finishing the rug, it was auctioned off at the AHA’s Go Red for Women luncheon on Feb. 17, where it was so popular, it was purchased almost immediately for the “buy now” price set by the AHA.

“As Go Red for Women’s Healthy Lifestyle partner, we were tasked with raising awareness inside and outside of our company about the seven steps to a healthy life,” said Mark Cipolletti, vice president of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA. “Our associates stepped up in a big way, dedicating hours and hours to the cause.”

Life’s Simple Seven
The seven steps to a heart-healthy life are:
• Get active
• Manage your blood pressure
• Quit smoking
• Eat better
• Lose weight
• Reduce blood sugar
• Control cholesterol

Wellness Programs at Allianz Global Assistance USA
In 2011, Allianz Global Assistance USA was awarded the AHA’s Platinum Fit-Friendly award, which recognizes companies that go above and beyond in encouraging and promoting healthy lifestyles for their employees. The Platinum level award is only given to companies that can show a return on investment for wellness programs. Allianz Global Assistance USA’s wellness programs are coordinated by its human resources department and an associate-driven wellness committee and include an annual wellness fair.

Wellness opportunities available to every Allianz Global Assistance USA associate include a “walk club,” gym discounts, monthly health, wellness and nutrition events, fresh fruit delivery twice a week, and free annual blood pressure, BMI, glucose and cholesterol screening in partnership with the company’s health insurance provider.
