Richmond, Va., September 26, 2012 – Marks & Harrison announced today that attorneys John C. Shea and Gregory S. Hooe have been included in the prestigious The Best Lawyers in America® 2013 listing in the field of personal injury. (Copyright 2012 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, SC)
In the publication’s 19th edition, Shea and Hooe are recognized for their legal excellence in Personal Injury Litigation (Plaintiffs). Announced last month, this is the second and eighth consecutive list for Hooe and Shea, respectively.
The Best Lawyers list is based on peer-review surveys in which more than 36,000 attorneys cast nearly 4.4 million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their practice areas. Lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed. Listings are organized by geographical region and practice area.
“It’s a particular honor to be recognized by your peers,” said Shea, a partner at Marks & Harrison. “I’m extremely proud of the work we do helping injured people throughout Virginia. I also want to share this recognition with my staff, because Marks & Harrison wouldn’t deliver the same value for our clients without their talent and dedication.”
Shea, who focuses his practice on cases involving brain injury and tractor-trailer accidents, has been listed in the 2012 Virginia Super Lawyers, published by Thompson Reuters, as one of the state’s top 50 lawyers and also hold the highest possible rating in the legal directory, Martindale-Hubble. In 2012, Shea, in addition to being named among the “Best Lawyers,” was the recipient of the first annual “Lawyer of the Year” award from Best Lawyers in the Richmond area.
Shea has served as president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, a state delegate with the American Association for Justice, board member of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the national advisory board of the Association of Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Virginia Bar Association, a former member of The Boyd-Graves Conference and a faculty member of the Virginia College of Trial Advocacy.
Added Hooe, “This recognition points to the essence of who we are as a firm. I feel honored to work with a group, the Marks & Harrison team, that is so singularly dedicated to helping injured people and serving our community with passion, competence, and excellence. It’s an honor to be named to this list for a second year.”
Hooe represents plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of personal injury cases. He has won jury verdicts and successfully argued cases before the Fourth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the Virginia Supreme Court.
Hooe is an active member of the Virginia Bar Association, Richmond Bar Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice and the America Board of Trial Advocates.
