At 900 local employees and counting, Allianz is a big company ? just not big enough to fill up its new headquarters.
After leasing all 300,000 square feet of the former Circuit City headquarters building known as Deep Run I, the Richmond-based travel insurance company is looking for a tenant to sublease the third floor of the five-story building.
“When we signed the lease for Deep Run I, we knew we weren’t going to be able to fill the whole thing, but hoped we would grow into it,” Allianz spokesman Daniel Durazo said. “We aren’t going to fill it up when we move in, so we decided to sublease one of the floors for the time being.”
The sublease, listed with broker Charlie Polk of Jones Lang LaSalle, is for 54,000 square feet.
Several media outlets reported this year that Allianz had lost one of its major clients, though the name of the client wasn’t revealed. Durazo said the loss did not factor into the decision to sublease a floor in the building.
“We add clients and we lose clients,” he said. “That’s the nature of the business. But at the end of the day, those things don’t affect our overall headcount that much. The company continues to grow.”
Durazo said there are about 900 Allianz employees in the Richmond area. The company plans to start moving into its new digs early in 2013, he said.
Its employees currently are spread among three buildings: two off Parham Road in the West End and one in Innsbrook.
