A Jackson Ward beer store is shutting its doors.

The Hoppy Dog, at 319 Brook Road, announced recently that its last day of operation will be March 2, according to a message on its website.

The store opened just over a year ago. It sells craft beers, wines and gourmet foods.

“We wanted to write a note of thanks to those who supported our store over the past year and a half,” the shop wrote on its site. “Starting a business in downtown Richmond was a new venture for us, and we opened our business with the most positive of intentions.

“It was a wonderful experience and we made many new friends through the store. However, at this point, we have decided to pursue different avenues of profession.”

Hoppy Dog owner Jamie Turko declined to comment.

For shame.

I remember stepping in from time to time whenever I was getting my bike repaired across the street. Decent people with a good store. Shame to see another downtown place that’s not a shady convenience store or pawnshop close its doors.

Good people running a good business in a crappy location. I hope they pop back up somewhere. I really enjoyed going to them.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a “crappy” location.

It’s a beautiful location.

Perhaps not the ‘right’ location (for this particular venture) but ‘crappy’ is certainly not an adjective that I would use to describe that location in any way.

Anyone know who the property manager is?
