A Shockoe Bottom restaurant and nightclub is getting a makeover.
The Lucky Buddha closed in early June after five and a half years in business. Owners Matthew Busch and David Bess are ditching the eatery’s Asian theme and rebranding as Society.
A note posted last week on the restaurant’s door at 1421 E. Cary St. described the new concept as an American bistro “set in a modern Chicago-style lounge setting.”
The restaurant is hiring, according to its Facebook page, and it’s expected to reopen this month.
Since May, building permits worth $33,000 have been filed on the property, according to city records.
Requests made to the owners for more information were not returned by press time.
